| Haemophilus
influenzae type b (Hib) and Streptococcus pneumonia are common bacteria
which cause many diseases like meningitis, pneumonia, bacteremia,
ear infection, joint infection and skin infection.
Meningitis,
inflammation of coverings of the brain, is often fatal, and those
who survive it leave behind long term consequences like deafness,
blindness, mental retardation or seizures.
A vaccine
against Hib (HibTITER) has almost wiped out the disease in
many developed countries. HibTITER is available in India
and the local studies show that it is very well tolerated.
